A news cycle is reporting of a particular media story, from the first instance to the last. It is the period of time that elapses before one news story or batch of stories is replaced by another. Before Cable news and then the internet, the news cycle used to last 24 hours, people would read a daily paper and/or watch the nightly news hour on the TV.
Tuesday- May 19, 2020
By Memorial day weekend, all U.S. states will be at least in its first phase of reopening. Many governors have already pushed into a second phase of restarting their economies, with some states now allowing restaurants, retailers and personal service shops to reopen their doors. Yet as of Tuesday, at least 17 states have recorded a clear upward trend of average new daily cases and only 16 states' average new daily cases dropped more than 10%.

Thousands are being evacuated in mid-Michigan due to two dams that failed because of heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The Tittabawassee River at Midland, Michigan, is forecast to crest 38 feet at 8 p.m. today. The river set a new record of 33.89 feet which beat the last record in 1986.

Former White House butler, Wilson Roosevelt Jerman, died on May 16th due to COVID-19, he served in the White House in 1957 under then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a cleaner. Jerman suffered a stroke in 2011 and the Obamas assisted in making sure he was taken care of while in the hospital, even sending flowers. At the end of his career, Obama honored Jerman for his more than 50 years of service with a plaque and a coin to represent each President he served.

A Pakistan International Airlines passenger plane was carrying more than 100 people when it crashed shortly before arriving at its destination on Friday. Flight PK303 lifted off from the Pakistani city of Lahore and was scheduled to touch down around 2:30 p.m. local time in Karachi. The pilot sent a mayday call, expressing concern over technical problems, before the Airbus 320 crashed down in a neighborhood called Jinnah Gardens.
