The death toll in New York goes over 10,000 after another 671 deaths on Sunday night. Governor Cuomo reported that the coronavirus killed another 671 New Yorkers over the Easter holiday, bringing the death toll to 10,000. In Cuomo’s press conference, he stated “I’m Catholic. Easter Sunday is the high holiday ... To have this happen over this weekend is really, really especially tragic,” Even though New York now has 10,000 deaths, the number of death per day is slowly flating out.

The country of Taiwan has gotten praise from all over the globe because of the country’s ability to defend its citizens against the Coronavirus. The government of Taiwan began screening people coming from Wuhan for the virus on December 31, 2019 despite the World Health Organization speaking against it. At the time, the virus was not known and just treated as another type of flu, because of this carelessness, there is almost 2 million cases and a hundred thousand deaths in the world. Because Taiwan prepared for the virus after their experiences with the SARS outbreak, there is only 393 cases in its 20 million citizens. Today, the country does not have any new cases of COVID.

During a press conference on Tuesday, President Trump has decided to stop funding the World Health Organization, his reasoning for this action is because the WHO severely mismanaged the protection against COVID-19, and because of its role in covering up the spread of the virus. While the WHO did a few mistakes during the outbreak, Trump himself has also ignored many warnings and maybe even downplayed the virus. Senator Chris Murphy states, “It is just wildly ironic that the President and his allies are now criticizing China or the WHO for being soft on China when it was in fact the President who was the chief apologist for China during the early stages of this crisis.” The U.S. funds $400 million to $500 million to the WHO each year, which is going to be a problem for the WHO now that the U.S. has cut all fundings.

The European Space agency has taken two photos of Venice and released them to the public. One of the pictures was from April of last year, and the other was from Monday of this week. After the Italian government announced that they would be shutting down the country, the city of Venice has been almost empty. You can clearly see that the picture from this year is missing the usual number of boats in the canals unlike last year. The water has been getting clearer because of less pollution due to the COVID-19.
